Featured Ads are ads that appear in a special Featured Ads section at the top of the listings pages for either 3 or 7 days. The benefit of featuring your ad is that more people read and reply to these ads because of their prominent position at the top of the listings for a few days.
While posting ads on Gumtree is free, featuring your ad involves the payment of a small fee.

What is the price to feature my ad?
The price is based on how long you’d like your ad to appear at the top of the listings page and which category you are featuring your ad in. When you post your ad the price to feature it in that category for either 3 or 7 days is shown on the form.
We accept all major credit and debit cards, and PayPal.

How many Featured Ads are displayed at one time?
The number of Featured Ads displayed is 5 per page, on the first 3 pages of listings in the sub-category (except for Removal Services in London which displays 7 featured ads across the first 4 pages). So 15 Featured Ads can be displayed at any one time in a particular sub-category (28 for Removal Services in London).
Featured ads also appear on rotation in the top level category of the sub-category they’re posted in (e.g. an ad featured in ‘Bicycles for sale in London’ will also appear at the top of ‘Sports / travel / leisure for sale in London’).

Featuring my ad
You can feature your ad either when you first post it, or anytime afterwards as long as it is live and in a category that has Featured Ads.
To feature a new ad:
1. Go to post an ad as normal
2. Select one of the "Feature Your Ad" buttons in the form depending upon whether you want to feature your ad for 3 or 7 days
3. Complete the details for your ad as normal, preview it and then follow the instructions to pay for it to also be featured and then submit
After a short period (it can be up to 4 hours) your ad will then appear in the regular listings as well as in the Featured Ads section at the top of the category you have posted in.
To feature an existing ad:
1. Click on the “edit/ delete your ad” button on the Gumtree homepage. Enter your ad’s posting reference number and password.
2. In your ad select one of the "Feature Your Ad" buttons depending upon whether you want to feature it for 3 or 7 days

Can I feature the same ad in more than one category?
You can only feature an ad in the sub-category it was posted in. However the ad will also be automatically featured in the category's parent. For example if an ad was featured in the "Removals" sub-category then it will also automatically appear in the "Building/ Home/ Removal" category.
How long will my ad be featured for?
Your ad will remain featured for the duration that you selected – either 3 or 7 days.
Why can’t I feature my ad?
If you tried to feature your ad and you received a message saying that you couldn’t, it will be because all of the Featured Ad slots in that sub-category are used up at that time.
We only allow a small number of ads to be featured at any one time so that posters get good exposure for their ads. Please check back later on to see if any Featured Ads slots have become available, by editing your ad and trying again to feature it.

There are a few possibilities why you might not be able to see your ad:
• Your ad has not come online yet
If you’ve only just posted your ad, please bear in mind that it could take up to 4 hours before it appears live on the site. But don’t worry – your featured time only starts from when your ad goes live, so you’re not paying for time when your ad isn’t on the site.
• Your ad is not currently on the 1st page
Featured Ads are rotated between the first few pages of the sub-category you posted in to ensure maximum exposure for all posters. Plus at the top category level the featured ads from all sub-categories are rotated between the first few pages. But don’t worry your ad is on the site at all times in both the regular listings and as a featured ad.
• Your ad has expired
If you can’t see your ad at all in the regular listings or as a Featured Ad and your ad was posted more than 30 days ago then it has probably expired.
• Your ad has been temporarily suspended or deleted
We have some automated tools to identify ads that may be inappropriate plus a community reporting system. Ads that we find fall outside our posting rules or terms and conditions may be removed from the site.
If none of these reasons seem to apply then please let us know and we’ll have a look.

How can I get a VAT receipt for my Featured Ad?
A VAT receipt is automatically sent to the email address you provided when posting your featured ad. If you haven’t received a VAT receipt, please let us know and we will send you one.
Why can't I pay for my Featured Ad using my account?
We are currently unable to accept payment of Featured Ads using your account invoice.
We know that this is a preferred payment option for many account holders and so we are working to provide this facility as soon as possible.
In the meantime, we are only able to accept payment by major credit and debit cards or PayPal.

My Featured Ad was deleted. Can I get a refund?
We reserve the right to remove ads without refund where these breach our posting rules and/or terms and conditions . You are asked to confirm that you have read the posting rules and terms & conditions before submitting your ad.
However, if you feel that your deleted ad does meet our posting rules and terms & conditions then please let us know and we will take a look.

Editing my ad when it is featured
You can still edit your ad as normal while it is featured. Simply click on the “edit/ delete your ad” button on the Gumtree homepage and follow the instructions.
Just don’t change the already selected button for “Feature your ad” if you don’t want to change the featured period and pay again or un-feature your ad!

Re-featuring my ad
At the end of the period that you have selected to feature your ad we will automatically send you an email to let you know that your ad will no longer be featured (although your ad will remain in the regular listings until it expires). If you would still like your ad to be featured again then the email will contain a link so that you can re-feature it.
Alternatively you can feature your ad again by using the “edit/ delete your ad” button on the Gumtree homepage at anytime (as long as your ad is still live and there are some available slots), see here to find out how.

I want to feature my old ad from a few months ago – where is it?
In general, the expiry timings for ads is between 30 and 90 days depending upon the category in which you have posted your ad. We don’t usually keep copies of ads that have expired. If your ad is older than 30 days, we are unlikely to have a copy of the ad.
Reposting my ad when it is featured
If you would like to repost your ad back to the top of the regular listings while it is also featured you can do that in the normal way, please see here.
Deleting my ad when it is featured
Your ad will stay online as a regular listing either until it has expired or until you decide to delete it.
If you want to delete your ad while it is featured, it will be deleted from both the regular listings and from the Featured Ads section. Simply click on the “edit/delete an ad” button on the left-hand side of the homepage and follow the instructions.
After a short delay your ad will be removed from both the regular listings and the Featured Ads section.
