The School Of Wing Chun Kuen : Traditional Wing Chun Kung-fu in Birmingham
Wing Chun Kungfu is a disciplined martial arts system that dates back over 300 years, it is a system that is it good for both physical and mental health as well as for self-defence.
It is the kungfu system that Bruce Lee had learnt in Hong Kong by Grandmaster Ip Man, father of Ip Chun.
Wing Chun was also made famous in Hong Kong through the illegal roof top fighting tournaments, through people such as Bruce Lee, Wong Shun Leung and William Chung.
Wing Chun is direct, moving from A-B in the quickest possible way, it is a skill based practical system that does not look good to the eyes, it’s not theatrical, a style of gymnastics nor a style of dance.
Like in normal fighting; Wing Chun is quick, spontaneous and never looks like the movies because once it starts it finishes sooner than later.
Within Wing Chun practice; one attempts to learn every possible combination of attacking and being attacked in almost every angle, thus creating a greater understanding of motion. In turn the practitioner gains experience of knowing to 'expect the unexpected' which enables one to take the upper hand.
Wing Chun teaches precise footwork, moving diagonally and in quarter-circles to the preferred position in the preferred time whilst keeping the shortest distance and fastest way to strike.
One of the beauties of Wing Chun is that it teaches a person to use arms and legs independently, simultaneously and spontaneously. Wing Chun develops and strengthens the entire body, it increases both physical and cardiovascular stamina. This not only benefits fighting situations but also benefits health, internally and externally.
The core of Wing Chun is developing sensitivity skill; such as recognising the slightest of movement, energy (Qi) or force to a point where a slight twitch or eye movement becomes sufficient. The increased awareness helps develops quicker reactions, then along with hand skill, footwork and other techniques one can combat an opponent.
