Design/Assessment Senior Engineer (Structural/Bridge)

Business Summary

Pell Frischmann Traffic and Transportation department, Bridge Division is looking to expand due to increased work load. Our clients include the Highways Agency, Network Rail, major contractors and other internal units. Most of our activities involve Design & Built work, Structures Assessments, Post-tensioned Bridge Designs and other.

We are looking to expand our scope of work further more into Design & Build and Early Contractor Involvement and other markets and create in Birmingham a structures centre of excellence through innovation.

Job Summary

Reporting to the Principal Engineer, you will be expected to be able to guide and assist graduate engineers, project manage bridge design/assessment aspects and schemes. Check compliance Health & Safety legislation, quality assurance to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 and office specific procedures, Eurocodes, British Standards and DMRB and MCDHW. You will assist the Principal Engineer and Technical Director with all aspects of project delivery to the satisfaction of the client. In addition you may be required to liaise with internal and external clients. Alternatively, you may be appointed the project manager medium to large scale projects, and be responsible for both their quality, Health & Safety, environmental, technical and commercial delivery.

Responsibilities

Provide technical guidance to juniors and graduate engineers;
Input on the preparation of bids and marketing of our bridge design capabilities;
Prepare & Check Calculations;
Prepare contract documentation & BoQ;
Occasionally liaise with internal and external clients
Review cost estimates & Monitor project delivery
Ensure Compliance with Quality, Safety and Environmental procedures to our Business Management System and Industry Standards
Ensure Compliance with British and International Codes, DMRB and MCDHW
Ensure H & S obligations are met

Requirements

Qualifications

Essential
ØChartered or nearing charted Civil or Structural Engineer;
ØAbility to deliver projects on time and to budget;
ØUnderstanding of clients' requirements and ability to work effectively with clients;
Desirable
ØProof of training through a record of continuing education and training
ØAcquired knowledge through experience or training of the following
vPre-stressing losses and effects
vCreep model codes
vPiles
vMaterials properties and testing
ØComputer literacy (e.g. Excel, Word, MS Project, CAD);
ØHealth & Safety legislation including CDM;
ØUK/EU driving licence


Experience

Working knowledge of finite elements
Good knowledge of BS5400 Parts 1,2,3,4,5,9,10
Understanding of Eurocodes 0,1,2, 3, 4 and 8
Structural analysis/design software (i.e. SuperSTRESS, Lusas, etc)
Experience with pre-stressed (pre-tensioned and post-tensioned) structures
Understanding of geotechnical engineering aspects
Bridge inspections and report writing
Preparation of contract documents;
Health & Safety legislation including CDM 2007
Working with QA procedures
Use of DMRB and MCDHW
Shop drawings, structural steel and RC detailing
