Personal Assistant Staffs Mh87 Burntwood Area
Hours: up to 5 hours per week
On average, you would support this family for up to 5 hours per week, however there may be times when you could be asked to work more hours. Hours may be used on a flexible basis where some are carried over to school holidays.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Parents are seeking support with their plans to extend and develop the support and activities for their son; this may involve time accessing community facilities. This post is based in Burntwood.
Job Purpose:
It is the role of the personal assistant to assist a disabled child with personal and practical care. Also through various activities your role as personal assistant will be to assist the family to provide supervision, support and stimulation to a young person with autism.
It is important that your time is spent constructively so that he can experience different social settings. Work and play with him to re-enforce life skills already in place and to provide continuity and routine which is important to him. It is your role to fully plan and assist with play activities and to provide constant supervision and ensure safety procedures are adhered to.
RATE OF PAY: £7.60 per hour at all times + mileage rate during activities.
RESPONSIBLE TO: Directly accountable to and taking direction from the employer (parent).
MAIN TASKS:
The post requires someone who will offer the appropriate level of support, to enable him to enjoy his activities and will promote his development.
You will be required to support him with kindness and understanding, to enable him to develop his participation in activities outside of the home environment, including swimming and visiting SNAP.
You would be required to support him at age appropriate activities,
You should encourage him to make choices and decisions regarding his daily activity.
You will need to develop an awareness of his communication methods, support will be provided by Mum
Support is required with personal care. He does wear pads at all times, protective clothing would be provided.
At all times, this young person will require support to be aware of dangers within his environment.
At times, he may behave in an unpredictable manner which will need a consistent response. The family will advise on how they want you to respond in certain situations.
You will need to be aware of his communication methods, support will be provided by the family.
To carry out other duties or activities connected with the role, which the employer may reasonably request.
Demonstrate an understanding and have a positive attitude towards a young person with Autism.
Demonstrate an awareness of safeguarding practices in relation to child and vulnerable people.
Have knowledge of equal opportunities.

Criminal Records Bureau disclosure check is required for the post at no cost to yourself.
The post is subject to 3 months probationary period.

Hold a full clean driving licence. Fully Comprehensive insurance with business class extension is essential for the post. The cost of this will NOT be met by the employer.
