Good student sitar by Rikhi Ram, gandhar pancham style. Tun wood with ebony jawari.

This is not a "tourist" sitar good for decoration only but a good quality student sitar with a nice sound. It was selected for me in 2006 by my sitar teacher at the time, Anupama Bhagwat (Dayton, Ohio) and purchased from the Detroit Institute of Indian Music after she had tried it first. I brought over to the UK in the spring of 2008 and played regularly until a few months ago.

It has not been adjusted, so one could have the jawari opened up and other adjustments made by a good sitar maker to suit your personal taste

It has no damage other than a few dings here and there and being a bit dusty. I have stored it in the hard case with the strings loosened and will give it a good dusting.

Comes with:
• Hard case (a little scruffy but it did get the sitar here safely in the cargo hold of a plane from the US to the UK!)
• Soft case recently purchased from Jas and used twice to take it back and forth to lessons.
• Narka (really nice one from Sitars Etc. www.sitarsetc.com )
• Four small and medium mizrabs (two Calcutta and two Benares)
• Pyramid Strings (heavy, pre-cut): 8 in 0.085, 1 in 0.12 and 1copper 0.015
I did use a few of these, and left the off-cuts from replacing a taraf in the packet.

This is a genuine sale and a good quality student sitar that should enable you to learn better than on one of the many totally cheap untenable ones out there.

I live in York but travel to Birmingham regularly (twice a month or more) so can easily arrange to meet you in B’ham. I just thought there may be greater interest in the sitar in a larger city like B'ham as opposed to York!
