Moseley has most of what you need - supermarkets and a lot of bars and restaurants, and the most frequent bus in Birmingham stops there (number 50 - which goes straight into town). The apartment itself is also very close to various bus lines, including the 1, 2 and 12 which go straight into the city centre.
